The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the wealthiest cricket board globally, and Indian cricketers are often wealthier than their international counterparts. While fans usually think of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, or Sachin Tendulkar when discussing the richest Indian cricketers, the actual wealthiest Indian cricketer might come as a surprise.
According to a Cricbuzz report from September 2023, the BCCI generated a staggering revenue of ₹6,558.80 crore in FY23, up from ₹4,360.57 crore in FY22. Alongside this, several Indian cricketers boast impressive personal fortunes.
Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, has a net worth of ₹214 crore, while former captain MS Dhoni’s wealth is around ₹1,000 crore. Virat Kohli, another Indian cricket icon, has an estimated net worth of ₹1,050 crore. Despite these impressive figures, neither Sharma, Dhoni, nor Kohli is the richest cricketer.
Sachin Tendulkar, often regarded as one of the greatest cricketers in history, surpasses Kohli with a net worth of ₹1,250 crore. However, even the “Master Blaster” isn’t the wealthiest.
That distinction goes to Ajay Jadeja, a former Indian cricketer, who was recently named the heir to the Jamnagar Royal Throne in Gujarat. During Dussehra celebrations, Maharaja Jamsaheb of Nawanagar declared Jadeja as his successor, granting him an inheritance valued at over ₹1,450 crore.
Jadeja’s royal ties are deeply connected to cricket history. His relatives, KS Ranjitsinhji and KS Duleepsinhji, are honored through the prestigious Ranji Trophy and Duleep Trophy, two of India’s most important domestic cricket competitions.
Though Jadeja faced controversy during his cricket career, including a ban for his involvement in a match-fixing scandal, he has successfully transitioned into a career as a cricket commentator. Currently, Jadeja can be seen covering the India vs. New Zealand Test series on JioCinema.
With his royal inheritance, Ajay Jadeja now holds the title of the wealthiest Indian cricketer, surpassing some of the most celebrated names in the sport.
